Palliative care joins Specialist LINK

Palliative care has become the 14th service available via the rapidly-expanding Specialist LINK tele-advice line. Physicians can call 403-910-2551 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to receive a call back within an hour.
Palliative care consultant advice and support is available to family physicians who have patients with complex symptoms or needs that include the following:
- Pain*, nausea, constipation, delirium, opioid toxicity, dyspnea
- Depression, anxiety, grief, psychological or spiritual distress
- Clarification of treatment goals and management plans
*For chronic non-cancer pain, physicians should contact the Specialist LINK chronic pain line.
Palliative care is the sixth service added to Specialist LINK in 2018. To help physicians access the specialty or group they need more quickly and efficiently, please click here to refer to the call tree. Physicians requesting non-urgent palliative care advice should call 403-910-2551 and press 5, followed by 3. It is not necessary to listen to the entire phone message.
Non-urgent advice: Specialist LINK and eReferral Advice Requests are two options available to physicians who need access to timely, non-urgent advice. Submit an advice request online to receive a response within five days, or call Specialist LINK for a call back within an hour. Palliative care is one of the specialties available via both services.
