Nephrology, podiatric surgery join Specialist LINK
March 5, 2018
Two new services have been added to Specialist LINK, with nephrology and podiatric surgery the latest specialty groups to join the fast-growing tele-advice line.
Family physicians can now get real-time, non-urgent advice from 10 specialty groups. The others are chronic pain, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hepatology, neurology, pediatrics, respirology and rheumatology.
“We’re delighted to include nephrology and podiatric surgery on Specialist LINK and hope to add more specialty groups in the coming months,” said Dr. Linda Slocombe, chair of the Health Systems Support group that developed the tele-advice line.
Podiatric surgery advice available through Specialist LINK includes foot fractures, lacerations and questions related to foot pain. A specialist can also recommend what tests may be appropriate prior to a referral. Family physicians using the podiatric tele-advice line can bill for their call time with the specialist, as usual.
Accessing tele-advice from podiatric surgery and nephrology – and all the other Specialist LINK services – is simple: Physicians can call 403-910-2551 or toll-free at 1-844-962-5465, from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding statutory holidays. Chronic pain is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Calls are returned within one hour.
