Radiation oncology joins Specialist LINK

October 1, 2020

CALGARY – Radiation oncology is the latest tele-advice option available to Calgary and area family doctors via Specialist LINK.

The service, which is available Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., connects specialists with family doctors in real time. Requesting tele-advice is simple; doctors or their team members can visit and click on the relevant button (in this case Oncology), or call 403-910-2551 (and press 7-2, respectively). Physicians can expect to receive a call-back within one hour.

In addition to radiation oncology joining Specialist LINK, four medical oncology sub-specialty lines that were previously available as separate services have been consolidated into one, single medical oncology service (press 7-1 if requesting by phone). Plastic surgery has been discontinued.

Radiation oncology tele-advice is available for physicians who would like to speak to a specialist about issues related to radiation therapy, such as side effects. It is not for a diagnosis for suspected cancer, or for any urgent treatment issues.

There are currently 45 tele-advice services available to Calgary and area family doctors via Specialist LINK. Please review our tele-advice user guide for more details about each service, all of which can be requested online at or via phone. The physician (or team member) requesting advice should always leave a direct line or cellphone for the physician seeking a call. The physician should also have the patient’s personal health number at hand and their PRAC ID. Physicians who choose to request tele-advice service by phone can click here to view the phone tree, which acts a quick reference guide to the services available and how to access them.

In addition to offering tele-advice, is home to 34 pathways and other resources for family physicians. For any technical issues related to Specialist LINK, please email
