Long COVID, GI pathways updated

November 24, 2021

Seven Specialist Link pathways have been updated to reflect new evidence and resources for the treatment of patients with long COVID and gastroenterology-related conditions.

The long COVID pathway, first published in the Calgary area in September, has been amended to include information about specialist long COVID clinics.

Referral information and forms can now be found on the Alberta Referral Directory. Referrals can also be sent via Alberta Netcare eReferral Consult Requests, or via fax to pulmonary Central Access and Triage (CAT) at 403-592-4201. Further changes to referral processes are expected in the coming weeks; the pathway will continue to be updated as information becomes available.

Six gastroenterology clinical care pathways have been updated to reflect changes to evidence or resources. And allergy medicine tele-advice has also been discontinued, effective Wednesday, December 1.

Specialist Link has experienced a rapid expansion since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 39 access and clinical care pathways now available at specialistlink.ca, and 46 tele-advice services.

The following GI pathways were updated in November and can be downloaded direct from the website.

  1. Chronic abdominal pain

  2. Chronic constipation

  3. Dyspepsia

  4. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

  5. Helicobacter Pylori

  6. Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Allergy medicine tele-advice has been discontinued due to resource challenges.
